"they shit on our lawns, they scratch up our vehicles, and worst of all, they go to the woods and bring back rabies!" shakesville is so overpopulated by stray cats they've become considered more of a public menace than the stray dogs. every street you turn down there's a stray cat lurking under a car, hiding behind a trash can, or spying from a tree. children love to run up and try to "pet the kitty," while adults love to phone the local animal shelter to remove the animal. with animal catchers constantly on the prowl and limited space in the small woods bordering shakesville, the rules have been changed for day-to-day stray living.
1.) stay in groups. when confronted by a catcher, scatter into pairs.
2.) all food must be brought to your clan. with such limited resources everything must be divided for any cat to survive.
3.) stay loyal to your clan. they will feed you, protect you, and love you.
4.) never trust a human. their food is poison. they hate you, you must hate them.
5.) aside from these rules, do anything you have to in order to survive.

The saying "No-one likes a show-off" doesn't register here. If you have skills, show them off. If you don't mind taking requests, say so. If you're in desperate need of someone with these said skills to use them for you, get down on your knees and beg.
Homeless vixens come to this thin wood in search of a herd/pack. Males come here in search of members for their herd/pack. But mares, be ye warned, for stallions may take you in by force if you're not careful where you tread.
The west beach of Serpentine Island is almost completely barren except for the many hoofprints that clutter the sand. Bachelors rule here, forming their own herd with a dominant stallion that often changes. Only a small valley seperates them from the Claiming Grove, a place where each will have to go once they've gotten the bachelor life kicked out of them. Should a stallion be foolish enough to bring one or should she be foolish enough to come on her own, mares will be dealt with as seen fit - for the bachelors cannot be judged when the opposite sex comes to their domain.
Hidden near the east side of the island are the large woodlands, hidden far from Vulture Rock and the West Beach. There is plenty of space for horses to easily maneuver themselves inbetween and around the trees and then some. Stallions bring mares from their herd here to breed.
Practically in the center of the island is a large field of golden grass. It stretches out as far as the eye can see if the eye weren't interrupted by several other horse bodies. Horses of all sides flee here with their herds when they have no other home to go to. Conflict often breaks out - and the end results can be deadly.
Near the south side of the island is the near-desert terrain of Vulture Rock. The sun glares down mercilessly upon its victims, the only shelter is the large rocks scattered about. Mares that foolishly travel here can get easily lost, but there are stallions that have stayed here for so long they know the place like the back of their hoof.
A small valley to the north borders the North Beach. An unspoken bond is set here, that no blood should be spilled by teeth or hoof upon the bright green blades. Pregnant females come here to peacefully birth.
The sand here is stirred up by the fast movements of different horses. The water seems to be almost a darker color than the other beaches, but this is only a small amount of the reason why this place is so often avoided. Skeletons and rotting corpses scatter the sand, some half buried - others not. Yellow eyes of predators waiting for the loser to die can be seen in the shadows when the fights take place. For these are the battle grounds, and much blood has been spilled here.
Seperated from the birthing grounds by a small patch of wood is the Moonlit Meadow. The grass can grow to be three feet tall out of winter and fall, making horses that linger too long and too unattentively easy prey for predators.
This forest is somehow darker than the rest. It rests southeast and mist often hangs in the air. Horses don't often come here for fear of getting lost and becoming the next meal, but others do. Young predators might find themselves taken here often to play and practice their hunting skills in peace with no fear of being trampled by a frightened horse.
The South Beach is considered a sunny haven to most horses. Though the heat can become a nuisance after awhile it's nice to be in a carefree zone. Predators rarely come to the beaches and therefore foals can kick up their heels and play without the fear of a set of powerful jaws dragging them down by the jugular.
The lights dwell here in the northern areas of the beach. Their mortal enemies are the darks and rivalry is easily stirred up. If a dark is so much as thought to be seen on their lands they are quick to punish, for the darks cannot simply think they may push them around.
The neutrals dwell here in the eastern areas of the island. They keep to themselves and try to exclude themselves from the war of dark and light, but they can only take so much. It is not unheard of for a neutral to seek out trouble in another alliance's territory for revenge.
The darks dwell here in the hot southern areas of the island. They live to kill, fight, and make all sorts of trouble. Darks are well known for keeping slaves and being a tyrant/menace to all. It would seem that their goal is to make the light's life a living hell.
